Most candidates either ramble or overshare. The best answers are structured, focused, and easy to follow.
The 90-Second Framework
Present Start with who you are now, your role, and your core responsibility area.
Past Give one short line on what led you here and one achievement that proves credibility.
Future Explain why this role is the logical next step and how you can create value quickly.
Example Structure
"I am currently a Product Manager at a fintech platform where I lead checkout and payments optimization. Over the last two years, I shipped three major initiatives that improved conversion by 18% and reduced failed transactions by 22%. Before that, I worked in growth analytics, which gave me a strong data foundation. I am now looking for a role where I can own higher-scale product strategy, and this position stands out because it combines product depth with global payment complexity."
Common Mistakes to Remove
Too much personal history You do not need your full biography. Keep relevance tight.
No measurable proof Without one metric, your answer sounds generic.
No link to the target role Always end by connecting your background to the role in front of you.
Prep Drill
Write your answer, record it, and trim until it stays under 90 seconds. Then prepare a 45-second version for tighter interviewers and a 2-minute version for conversational panels.
